Glossary of Vaporizing Terms

These are terms that you’ll see and hear in my videos and reviews:

» Vape
Can be used as a noun or a verb. When used as a noun, a vape is a vaporizer (plural: vapes). When used as a verb, to vape means to vaporize.

Example sentences:
Noun – “Sometimes I can’t decide which vape to use so I use them all.”
Verb – “I’m gonna vape the crap out of that Herbalizer when I get home.”

» Vaporizer
Noun – A device that warms up and gently heats your material to the point of vaporization, but not as far as combustion. Convection vaporizers heat your material with hot air, and conduction vapes radiate heat through a hot surface – some are a combo of both.

“If you don’t know what a vaporizer is by now we may have a problem.”

» Vaporize
Verb – To use a vaporizer. When you vaporize you are heating your material to a certain temperature to release the active ingredients into a vapor, staying below the point of combustion (burning).

“The time is now to vaporize.”

» Vapor
Noun – The stuff that gets produced by a vaporizer. True vapor does not contain smoke or the compounds that come along with it. Sometimes you’ll hear me say vapor quality, which refers to the taste, strength and comfort level of the vapor. In general, vapor smells less than half as strong as smoke and dissipates more than twice as fast.

“I like my vapor like I like my herbs, dense.”

» Vaper
Noun – With an “e”, a vaper is someone who likes to vaporize.

“Just don’t actually call me a vaper out loud.”

» Vaping
Verb – Short for vaporizing, the act of using a vaporizer.

“If you haven’t started vaping yet it’s time to step your game up.”

» Draw
Can be used as a noun or a verb. When used as a noun, a draw is a pull from a vaporizer. When used as a verb, to draw means to actively pull from a vaporizer.

Noun – “Just take a draw and pass it to the left homie.”
Verb – “Draw from the mouthpiece slowly for best results, yea baby, real slow.”

» Herbs
Noun – The stuff you put inside of an herbal vaporizer, typically dried flowers or plant material. Sometimes you’ll also hear this referred to as dry herbs.

“Pack your herbs tightly inside the chamber, and don’t pronounce the H.”

» Concentrates
Noun – Refers to concentrated plant extracts and is available in a variety of forms. Typically, it is an oil or wax-like substance.

“I can only vape concentrates at night because it turns me into a zombie during the day.”

» Material
Noun – A generic word for stuff you put inside of a vaporizer. I sometimes use this term in place of herbs.

“Some people bust my balls for calling it material, sorry guys we’re not quite there yet.”

» Chamber
Noun – The part of a vaporizer you put your material in. Also referred to as the herb chamber.

“The herb chamber is where the magic happens.”

» Oven
Same definition as Chamber above.

» Desktop vape
Noun – A desktop vaporizer is one that has a power cord attached that you plug into an outlet, and it typically sits on your desk or table while you use it.

“The Volcano is one of the all-time best desktop vaporizers.”

» Portable vape
Noun – A portable vaporizer is one that is cordless and is typically powered by an internal rechargeable battery. Some have batteries that are removable and some are powered by other means (like butane). You’ll sometimes see me refer to these simply as portables.

“The Pax is one of my favorite portable vapes, I rarely leave home without it.”

» Pen vape
A pen vaporizer is one that typically has a long, skinny shape, similar to that of a pen. These are cordless and powered by rechargeable batteries. Also referred to as vape pens, these are mainly designed for use with concentrates.

“If one more pen vape claims to vaporize herbs I swear I’m gonna…”

» Balloons / Bags
Noun – Some vaporizers fill a balloon with vapor that you then draw from, instead of you drawing from a tube directly connected to the unit. These are also referred to as bags.

“Using a balloon vaporizer is similar to drinking from a keg, vapor on tap.”

» Whip
Noun – Many vaporizers utilize a whip, or tubing, that carries vapor from the chamber to the mouthpiece. These are also referred to as whip-style vapes.

“Just whip it, whip it real good.”

» Liquid Pad
Noun – Some vaporizers include a small stainless steel mesh pad, which is referred to as a liquid pad because it can be used to vaporize liquids and oils, but it can also act as a chamber spacer when vaping dry herbs.

“If you use a small amount of herb with the Plenty vape you should place the liquid pad on top of your material for the best vapor production.”

» Spent
Adjective – When your material is spent you’ll no longer get any vapor when you take a draw, and it should have a medium-dark brown color to it.

“We need to reload the chamber, I think the herbs are spent.”

» Session
Noun – A single vaporizing experience. A session is typically the period during which you vaporize a certain amount of material.

“I usually fill 3 to 4 balloons with vapor in one session.”
